Falling.

If only I were a green leaf, 

then my falls would be

lighter, lengthier, softer. 

The wind would be able

to lift me in seconds

off of the cold concrete. 

But I am more like a pinecone. 

I fall quickly

and even bounce

several times. 

I roll instead of float 

and my exterior

makes me look dirty. 

If the wind can't even pick me up

why would a human being?
